Get in shape

By Ashley Santora, Event Manager of Amanda Pierce Productions

As both a wedding planner and a yoga instructor, I work with our clients on two levels: logistically planning their wedding day while also preparing them on a deeper level for one of the most important days of their lives.  There is a great deal of pressure on the bride and groom to have every detail picture perfect, including themselves.  It’s a day that is photographed by every guest and then shared on multiple social media platforms for all the world to see.  Couples are often overwhelmed by the onslaught of social media that has come to play a major role in their wedding.  I always suggest the best way to stay sane and grounded is by making sure that you are both fit in not just the physical sense but also mentally: put yourselves in the right state of mind and it will all fall into place for the perfect social media snap shot.

Traditionally, the pressure to be in the best shape of your life has been mainly on the bride and her maids.  Today, however, the groom and his men are getting just as involved.  Couples are taking fitness classes and getting prepared for their big day together.  It is not just a solo mission anymore but an activity that can be shared.  Creating a fitness goal that you both work towards can be the first goal set as a newly engaged couple and a great source of inspiration to create more goals as a married couple.  I often offer the literal definition of yoga which is the act of joining and makes for the perfect analogy for marriage: the uniting of two people.  Couples soon realize that getting fit may begin as a physical workout but ends up being the best mental workout for themselves and each other.
